The collection is a range of bar/café furniture developed with the focus on building up local production and creating jobs in the informal areas of Maputo, Mozambique. The focus has been on low-tech joinery work and manufacturing efficiency, which laid the groundwork for simple, easy to follow assembly in the design. As well as an easy construction the collection is stackable and can be used both indoors and outdoors.
This project is based on already existing facilities and skill-sets. It can be started up as it is now on a small scale, and it can be built up around a further exchange of skill-sets. Over time, it can improve production efficiency at small joinery workshops.
The project was one of 25 projects by KADK, which wrestle with both the opportunities and challenges confronting a rapidly developing continent. The project was created in collaboration with designer Sarah Cramer Israelsen and architect Danielle Glob Johansson.
